What do you see in the picture?
I see an ongoing struggle. You are the man in wine jersey. You are running with the ball towards the goal post. You are meant to score, get ahead in the match and do your coach and your fans proud. But seven members of the opposing team say “NO, you’re not going anywhere”, by their actions.
I see an ongoing struggle.
You are meant to manoeuvre your way to the goal post – to discover and fulfill God’s purpose for your life. You are meant to remain steadfast in the faith, and play your ball of commitment into the goal post. You are meant to learn at God’s feet, daily walking with Him and growing in your relationship. You are mean to live an abundant life, filled with God’s joy and peace. You are meant to score – to make heaven.
But the devil’s team are saying “NO!” They are all dressed in blue and black– members of the same team – but with different strategies poised to pull you back and pull you down.
Two are hanging tightly to your jersey top, determined to pull you back, to retard your spiritual growth. Unwariness. Indiscipline.
One pulls at your short threatening to strip you. Because He knows that if he does, you will stop your pursuit and scurry to cover up and save face. He will then have succeeded in stopping you from chasing the ball – and your goal. He is immorality. He has his means that you should beware of – Inordinate affection and thoughts.
Can you imagine what the others are doing? The one complementing his mate against you, the one that is jumping ahead to pounce on you… they are so DETERMINED. They have been warned by their master to “win or die fighting.”
Be assured that the veterans who have blazed this same CHRISTIAN JOURNEY and made it to the goal are on the spectator stands, cheering you on.
So what can you do?
You must recognize their tactics, their game plan, so you can counter them. And you must be on the ATTACKING side. You must be proactive. You must recognize this fact and not recline on your couches but get on with it. Strip down, start running – and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how He did it. Because He never lost sight of where He was headed – that exhilarating finish in and with God – He could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now He’s there, in the place of honour, right alongside God. (Heb 12:1-2)
These sons of Belial will not give up until they strike you down, but you can keep them trying till you get to your goal.
Will you follow in Christ’s steps today?
